Shielded biplanar gradient coil design.
An application of the target field method to the design of shielded biplanar gradient coils for magnetic resonance imaging electromagnets is presented. Some specific cases are studied, and optimized geometries are proposed for the axial and transverse gradient coils that eliminate the third- and minimize the fifth-order terms in the magnetic field expansion.
متن کاملTheoretical design of 3D gradient coils
Introduction: Gradient coil design is constrained by the important coil parameters of inductance, efficiency and field homogeneity [1]. Additional secondary concerns include reducing the induction of eddy currents and peripheral nerve stimulation, patient claustrophobia and acoustic noise [2]. The search for optimal coil geometries to address various combinations of these design criteria has re...
متن کاملAn inverse design method for 3D toroidal gradient coils
Introduction: Traditional gradient coil design is typically constrained to cylindrical, planar, spherical or conical surfaces. Gradient coil geometry is important in arriving at optimal trade-offs between gradient homogeneity, coil efficiency and inductance [1]. Additional concerns such as the induction of eddy currents and peripheral nerve stimulation, patient claustrophobia and acoustic noise...
متن کاملOptimization of Biplanar Gradient Coils for Magnetic Resonance Imaging
“Open” magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scanners are frequently based on electromagnets or permanent magnets, and require self-shielded planar gradient coils to prevent image artifacts resulting from eddy currents in metallic parts of the scanner. This work presents an optimization method for the development of self-shielded gradient coils with biplanar geometry for “Open” MRI scanners. Compare...
متن کاملOptimization of Planar Stream Functions for Gradient Coil Design
This work presents the Fast Simulated Annealing method for the design of self-shielded gradient coils with biplanar geometry. This method is based on the stochastic optimization of parameterized stream functions, which can be modeled by a few free parameters and can be used for coil designs with different (a) size or (b) number of turns. Gradient coils designed by this method produce magnetic f...
